Countryside Christian Church is excited to offer the use of a labyrinth not only to our congregation but also to those in our local community and the greater community at large. Labyrinths are spiritual tools used within the Christian tradition dating back to at least the fourth century.
Today, in the 21st century, labyrinths are once again in wide use by Christians throughout the world. The classic tool is used in a variety of ways for a variety of purposes, from therapeutic to the holy, practical to the mystical. These geographic patterns offer a blank slate on which to develop greater intimacy with God, one’s self, and the wider community as a whole.
Countryside Christian Church installed this labyrinth on October 25, 2020 with the help of many church and community volunteers. Funded through a grant from The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and donations from Ohio Valley Gas, it is 50 feet in diameter and consists of seven circuits. The labyrinth is made of concrete pavers and gravel.
It is our intention to offer workshops, opportunities, and activities throughout the liturgical year to encourage both individuals and groups to use the labyrinth as a tool for broadening individual spiritual practices and deepening prayer lives. It is also our intention to make this space available to individuals and groups in our community for the same or similar purposes.
The labyrinth is open to the public during daylight hours. If your group or organization would like to use the space for planned or specific activities, please contact the church (765-584-1951) to make those arrangements.
